Again, we have another Hobbycraft Kit that we wanted to try.
I knew that I liked to cross stitch when I was younger, but wasn't too sure if I'd still enjoy it now, so I bought three mini cross stitch kits to test out.
The cupcake kit seemed to interest me the most at the time, so this is the one that I'm showing you in today's post.
This cupcake just looked so cute that I had to buy it and do it straight away.
The pack contains everything you need to make this little beauty.
There are instructions, and these suggest that you start by finding the middle of fabric (fold it in half then in half again) and sew the centre stitch first. By starting off from the middle, you achieve perfect placement!
This is a counted cross stitch pattern - it is very easy to follow.
I stitched the middle row first and loved it immediately.
I'll be honest, the minute I saw the guide I thought, "Absolutely no way, abort mission", as it looked super fiddly, but once I got started I was addicted and realised it wasn't that hard after all!
I did have a few moments of panic when I thought I'd run out of the thread but, it turns out there is more than enough provided in the pack (even if you have a few false starts and make a mess of some of the strands - like I did)!
This is what my finished, not-yet-outlined cross stitch design looked like.
As you can see from the guide, I ticked each row off as I went so I wouldn't lose track (like I would do with a knitting pattern). This helped me focus and concentrate on one line at a time and not stress about the intricacy of it.
I hadn't a clue what back stitch was, but it required me to back stitch the black outline so I Googled it - of course, how else would I find out?! - and watched this video (scroll down to find the back stitch one) which is super easy to follow.
This is the finished, outlined design! All that's left to do is frame it!
