Brush Lettering Workshop with Danielle Lummis

Hi guys!

A few days ago we went to a brush lettering workshop at Tindalls in Ely. We had a lot of fun and had a wonderful teacher (Danielle Lummis) so we wanted to share our experience with all of you!

Before we start, all links to Danielle's social media and website will be at the bottom of this post.

This is how Danielle set up each place. Everything was prepared, and she had even written out our names so beautifully.

After some chatting, we got down to business! Danielle showed us the calligraphy drills to practice first. These consisted of the entrance stroke, underturn stroke, overturn stroke, compound curve, oval stroke, ascending loop, descending loop and the full pressure stroke. This may sound confusing if you've never done calligraphy before (it sounded confusing to me anyway😄) but Danielle showed us so clearly how to do them, that it was all well in the end!

We then began by trying out and practising these drills (one line of each).

After that, Danielle showed us the lowercase alphabet all in one go, so we had the maximum time possible to practice and ask for her assistance along the way if we got stuck. I was pretty happy with mine, to be honest! I thought I wasn't going to do very well, but I surprised myself!

Since the workshop, I have practised brush lettering every day for at least 10 minutes and honestly, I'm improving already! Danielle also went over how to join letters and quickly covered capital letters too.

Overall, we had SO much fun and will be continuing with this gorgeous writing style for many many more days to come!

Thank you for reading along with us!

Keep crafting x
