Brian Clarke Stained Glass Exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre

Hi guys!

Louise here. Just thought I'd share my photos and thoughts with you on the Brian Clarke: The Art of Light exhibition that is showing at the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich at the moment.

We have visited the Sainsbury Centre a few times now and found last year's Giacometti exhibition equally interesting. We're certainly planning on going more frequently in the future, as their permanent exhibitions include some fantastic ceramics by Hans Coper and Lucy Rie (ceramicists from whom I've drawn a lot of inspiration over the years).

The Brian Clarke exhibits are split into two bodies of work: stained glass screens, which he started working on in 2015; and his works in lead, which he has continually produced from 2007.

The backdrop for these beautiful screens couldn't be any better. The majority of the pieces are set against the enormous glass windows to the left of the main building, with the sunlight casting through and showing off the screens at their best, whilst simultaneously creating the most glorious floor show patterns.

Screens can be found both in the main gallery and also up on the first-floor gallery, which is where all of his lead work can be viewed too.

We also enjoyed some of the sculptures which can be found outside the Sainsbury Centre building. I particularly like the Lynn Chadwick beast sculptures.

It's definitely worth a visit. Some of the patterns in Brian Clarke's stained glass pieces are just beautiful, and I am particularly fond of the jellyfish one (pictured further up in the post).

Keep crafting!
