Paper Flowers

Hi guys!

Following on from our paper flowers workshop at Hobbycraft, we decided to make another bouquet for a family member's birthday present.

Links to all the resources we used are down in the "where to buy" section!

The beads you will see throughout are optional, we used them as the centre of the flowers.

To keep the needle (you can also use a pin - or anything pointy) safe we used Blu Tack to stick it in.

To make the flower shapes, I used templates that I found on Google images (link below) - these are free of course! However, if you're better at drawing than I am (like Mum) you can always draw them freehand.

We started off drawing the flowers on our chosen colour of card.

Then, we cut them out (mum used a craft knife & cutting mat, but I used scissors it's completely up to you, choose whatever you feel most comfortable with).

As you can see, you leave a lot of pencil marks behind so...

...you can use an eraser to rub them out.

Next, we shaped the flowers as you can see from the video.

Now to curl the wire, I found this pretty hard at Hobbycraft and I found it hard now! Don't worry, the wire is pretty easy to bend back to shape if it takes you a couple of attempts. Bending the wire keeps the bead from falling off the end.

Time to choose the bead you'd like and thread on.

This part is optional too. We decided we wanted leaves on the stems of our flowers so we drew them out on the green coloured card.

Then we cut them out, again using a craft knife & cutting mat and scissors.

To thread the flowers on, first, make a hole in the middle of each with the needle/pin. You can then push the wire through easily so you can thread them on to what is now the stem of the flower.

Wrapping the floral tape around is definitely the hardest part. It doesn't feel sticky but trust me - as soon as you start wrapping it around the wire, it sticks to itself and your fingers!

As you go down the stem, add your leaves to it where you want them, making sure you wrap the tape around the 'stems' of the leaves to hold them in place.

Your flower is now complete, and this is the beautiful bird's eye view.

The pale pink flower shown here was created by Mum. She drew it completely freehand.

Complete these steps as many times as you like to create a small (or big!) bouquet which can be used as a decoration or as a beautiful handmade gift.

We are both really pleased with the finished product!

If you would like a more in-depth, step-by-step tutorial on how to make these then please let us know and we would be delighted to provide one.
