50th Birthday Party

Hi guys!

This is a different type of post (possibly the only one of these we'll do). Last weekend, we turned our village hall into a Bollywood delight for a relative's birthday party!

Firstly we rolled out a huge strip of the fabric for the ceiling and cut holes in each corner. We then threaded some fishing wire through the holes and tied them around a few (hundred) times, leaving a long tail to tie to the beams.

James (boyfriend) then went up the ladder and started tying the fishing wire to the end beam. He then moved the ladder to every beam following the first and threw the rest of the fabric over it to create the billowing effect. This would have been a whole lot easier if we were allowed to staple everything to the ceilings and walls, but because we couldn't, we had to get extremely creative.

Claire, Mum's friend and amazing cake maker and decorator, made Simon's birthday cake. He is an avid woodturner so this was perfect!

The top cake has ganache as icing and the bottom is buttercream.

Both are chocolate cakes that tasted absolutely delicious!

Simon was thrilled with this when Claire presented it to him at the party. It was a complete surprise!

Claire also made some beautiful, Bollywood-themed cupcakes which were red velvet with oozing chocolate in the centre.

We then set the tablecloths on to the tables and tied the yellow gold and fuschia satin fabrics onto the chairs.

The snacks (Bombay mix and onion bhajis) were put into the gold sparkle bowls and distributed on the various tables.

We then added three lanterns to the middle of them for extra amazingness!

James had to go up the ladder again to hang bunches of the lanterns (we made those up on the day too) randomly throughout the hall.

The ceiling was definitely the best feature of the hall, as it completely changed the look of the whole venue (which is what we were hoping for).

People who work at this venue were so impressed with it that they have put pictures of it up on their Facebook page and said that we may get requests for us to put it up again for other people's parties/events!

The process of putting up the lanterns was a long one but totally worth it when we saw the overall effect of the place.

Keep crafting x
